Join HydraPak and the Monterey Bay Half Marathon’s efforts to reduce single-use waste by pledging to run a cupless race!
Registered participants in the 2022 Monterey Bay Half Marathon, PG Lighthouse 5K, and By-The-Bay 3K are invited to opt-in to a cupless racing experience. The first 4,000 participants to take the cupless pledge will receive a free HydraPak SpeedCup for use at aid stations in lieu of single-use cups.
TAKE THE PLEDGE:
Why Should I Run a Cupless Race?
Runners can reduce waste and their environmental footprint by choosing to run a cupless race. Instead of using multiple single-use cups, runners carry a HydraPak SpeedCup or other hydration device for filling at aid stations.
HydraPak and the Big Sur Marathon Foundation are aiming for a 33% opt-in rate for participants across all race weekend events, thereby eliminating tens of thousands of single use cups on course. At the 2022 Big Sur Marathon, our sister event, over 50% of participants opted in to a cupless experience!
What is a SpeedCup?
HydraPak’s collapsible and reusable SpeedCup was designed specifically for runners as an alternative to single-use cups at race events. Lightweight and flexible, it can be collapsed and stuffed in pockets or carried using the integrated finger loop.
Be sure to have your SpeedCup or hydration vessel accessible as you approach each aid station – volunteers will be prepared to quickly fill up your cup as you run by.
How Do I Sign Up?
Runners who complete their cupless race pledge online can pick up their free SpeedCup at HydraPak’s booth at packet pick up on the expo floor. Please note that you must take the pledge by filling out the form on this page by November 6, 2022 in order to receive your SpeedCup at the Expo. On-site sign ups will not be accepted. Additional hydration options and systems including SpeedCups will be available for purchase at the Expo. Those who want to opt-in to a cupless race experience but do not want a SpeedCup will be offered $3 off one product at the HydraPak booth.
