THE OCEAN VIEW CHALLENGE
The Ocean View Challenge (OVC) will not be held in 2020 due to the date change.
ENTRY LIMIT AND REGISTRATION
2020 Monterey Bay Half Marathon events registration has been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and resulting “shelter in place” order in the state of California. We are working to determine a new opening date, but our workplace, like many of yours, is closed along with most businesses and governmental agencies for several more weeks. We will continue to update our website and social media channels as new information becomes available, but please be aware that registration will NOT open on March 25th as originally scheduled. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
The 5K is open to 1,000 entrants. You must be ten years of age or older and in good health. Both runners and walkers are welcome.
Official 2020 original race numbers are required to take part in the event. No dogs or children in strollers may participate.
Bibs and event shirts can be picked up at the Health & Fitness Expo at the Monterey Conference Center on Friday, November 13th from 12 Noon to 6 PM. A photo ID is required for pick-up.
- DOWNTOWN PARKING GARAGES
The Garages are located on Franklin between Washington and Alvarado Streets. To park here you MUST ARRIVE by 5:30 AM. Parking is free until 11 AM. If southbound on Highway 1, take the Monterey exit 401A. Go through the traffic light and continue west on Fremont Street. At the intersection with Abrego, turn right. Abrego becomes Washington Street. Continue on Washington to Del Monte and turn left. Turn left again on Tyler to enter the parking garagesIf northbound on Highway 1, take the Munras Avenue exit 399B. Munras turns into Abrego. At the intersection with Fremont, continue on Abrego and follow the directions as shown above.
- STREET PARKING
There is parking available on city streets. Many meters and surface lots ARE enforced on Sunday.
- FREE MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE PARKING AND SHUTTLE
All day free parking is available at Monterey Peninsula College (MPC). Free shuttles will take runners from MPC to a drop-off near the race start every 10 minutes from 5 to 6:15 AM. If exiting to Monterey from Highway 1, take exit 401A and turn left onto Aguajito Road. at the traffic light at the bottom of the exit ramp. Turn right at the entrance to MPC and then right again onto Via Lavandera. If coming down Munras Avenue from exit 399B, turn right on Fremont and proceed to the intersection of Aguajito and Fremont, then turn right. Follow signs inside the Monterey Peninsula College parking lot. Plan on arriving no later than 6 AM.
- FREE DEL MONTE SHOPPING CENTER PARKING AND SHUTTLE
All day free parking is available at Del Monte Center (DMC). Free shuttles will take runners from DMC to a drop-off area near the race start every 10 minutes from 5 to 6:15 AM. Take exit 399B from Highway 1 to Munras Avenue. Del Monte Center is immediately on the right after exiting. Follow signs and directions for parking. Plan on arriving no later than 6 AM.
- RETURN SHUTTLES
Return shuttles to both MPC and DMC depart from Figueroa Street at the Rec Trail from 8:30 AM to 12 Noon. See the parking and shuttle map for the exact location.
The designated runner drop-off location for private vehicles is on Pacific Street between Jefferson and Madison (in front of City Hall). It’s a short five minute walk from here to the start on Del Monte.
- BIKE VALET
Free secure bicycle parking is available for runners and spectators near the finish area.
The race will begin as part of the Monterey Bay Half Marathon start in downtown Monterey. The course is a fast and scenic loop route next to the beautiful Monterey Bay
There are two aid stations serving water, one at approximate mile 1.3 and a second one at mile 2.2.
The 5K ends in downtown Monterey.
TIMING and AWARDS
Timing is provided by South Valley Endurance.
Awards go three deep in five-year age divisions after 5-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-19. There will also be an award for the overall male and female and overall masters (age 40 and over) male and female runners. Double-dipping is permitted (overall winners are eligible for divisional awards).
IPODS AND AUDIO DEVICES
We strongly discourage the use of iPods, headphones, ear buds or other MP3 or headphone devices in any of our events for safety reasons. Due to the nature of this course, you need to be able to hear verbal instructions or commands from race officials including course marshals on bicycles and to hear other vehicles or emergency vehicles on the course alongside you. We ask that you leave your headsets/earbuds at home to best enjoy the experience with your fellow runners.
