Lactation Support by &Mother

For the 2022 Monterey Bay Half Marathon, we are so excited to partner with &Mother to provide lactation support for nursing mothers throughout race weekend.

&Mother aims to remove barriers that limit a mother’s ability to fully participate in sports, and they are working with race organizers nationwide to standardize support services for parents participating in recreational athletic events. The &Mother team knows first-hand the importance of lactation support for a successful race, and our partnership with them will enable all nursing runners at Monterey to have a great experience.

 

 

Here’s what you need to know:

Who can access the lactation spaces?

• Any nursing runner participating in the Monterey Bay Half Marathon.

What will be provided?

• Dedicated lactation space at the race expo (Friday, Nov 11 and Saturday, Nov 12) available for any nursing / pumping runner, supporter, or volunteer.
• Dedicated lactation space at the half marathon start and finish line on Sunday, Nov 13.
• Pumping equipment provided by Babyation.
• Medical device storage and transportation for personal pumps.
• Breastmilk storage and transportation.

Where will the lactation spaces be?

• At the race expo: dedicated room on the 2nd floor of the Monterey Conference Center for pumping and/or chestfeeding children.
• Half marathon start line: dedicated tent next to the start line where runners can pump and then drop off their equipment and milk. &Mother and Babyation personnel will staff the space throughout the race. There will be easy access to porta potties next to the lactation tent.
• Half marathon finish: dedicated room at the Portola Plaza hotel, immediately adjacent to the finish festival. Runners will be able to pick-up their medical equipment and milk, pump, and/or chestfeed children in this space.

When do I need to let you know if I need access to the lactation space?

• During the Health and Fitness Expo (Friday, Nov 11 and Saturday, Nov 12), stop by the &Mother booth to pick up your medical device bag and sticker for your pumping equipment. Team members from &Mother and their partner, Babyation, will be on-hand to answer any questions and walk you through race day pumping logistics.
